After another early start and an impressive room inspection with all rooms passing with flying colours, we left the hotel to head to Arras to visit Wellington Quarry which houses a series of underground tunnels used during the battle of Arras. It really was an experience walking through the tunnels that the soldiers themselves had built and walked through. After here we travelled to Newfoundland Memorial Park where the battle of the Somme took place. We walked through the trenches, across No Man’s Land and onto the German side. Pupils found it incredible that the trenches and shell holes were still intact! Currently we are on our way back up to Calais.
