Belgium Day 1:
After a smooth and uneventful journey down to Belgium (no traffic, yay!) we arrived in Ypres to beautiful sunshine and a chill in the air. First up was the Passchendaele museum which really brought to life one of the bloodiest and muddiest battles fought in WW1; pupils were enthralled by the artefacts, artillery and the impressive reinactment of the WW1 trenches. Following a quick stop for lunch, we then travelled the short journey to the market square and visited Ypres cathedral which has been completed destroyed during WW1. It really is an impressive place to behold. Then we had a quick look around the Christmas market before one of the highlights of the day: ice skating. Some pupils whizzed around, some pupils tentatively stepped around but all had a brilliant time. This was then followed by some much-deserved hot chocolate. After this we then arrived at our accommodation and a chance to relax after a busy first day. Pupils have enjoyed a 3 course meal and are now relaxing playing some games of table tennis and pool before having a much-needed early night ready for another busy day tomorrow.
