Lisa Thompson author visit

We are pleased to announce that Lisa Thompson, an acclaimed children’s author, will be
visiting OMS next week. She will be talking to Year 5, Year 6 and Year 7 pupils on Tuesday
15th January at 1.30pm. This promises to be an insightful, informative and inspiring
presentation.
Lisa Thompson has previously published two popular novels – ‘The Goldfish Boy’ and ‘The Light Jar’ – and her new book, ‘The Day I Was Erased’, is being published this week! It is described as ‘a story of family, friendship and finding your place in the world’.
There will be an opportunity to buy Lisa’s novels – and get them signed – on the day. Each
book will be priced at £6, a discount on the retail price. We therefore suggest that pupils
bring money with them. Staff from Seven Stories, the children’s books centre in Newcastle, will be visiting especially to oversee the book sales.

Promoting reading for pleasure is, as you know, a major focus for our school. Our new library has proved to be a boost to our school-wide culture of reading. We encourage all pupils to read for a minimum of two hours a week in their own time (preferably more). We reinforce this through designated reading time – in English lessons and form time – and regular completion of reading records in English lessons. Lisa Thompson’s visit will hopefully inspire further reading!
