On Tuesday 13th November, Mr Driver and Mr Kirk took the Y6 Girls football team to the county finals. Here is the match report which led to victory!
OMS 1-0 Redesdale Primary School
Ovingham have won the ESFA U11 County Cup after finishing top of a 6 team league, competing against other area winners. In the first game, OMS faced Redesdale Primary School who later turned out to be our closest competition for the title. Ovingham spent most of the game in the Redesdale half but could not find a break through. However, two minutes from time Amelie produced a moment of magic, dancing past 3 players before splitting their defence with a superb pass which Lucy brilliantly finished.
OMS 2-0 Bede Academy
OMS were straight back on without a rest against Bede Academy. Bede had a very good player but the girls managed to stop the threat. A fantastic passing move ended with Evie scoring a brilliant goal from close range. Eleanor and Amelie were superb in defence which allowed Amy and Hannah to link up well which ended with a Lucy screamer in to the top corner. This was a fantastic performance from everybody.
1-0 Marden Bridge Middle School
OMS played their third game in a row against a talented Marden Bridge side. In an end to end game there were chances at both ends but Amelie and Eleanor remained solid at the back and were very calm under pressure. Grace produced a brilliant save to tip a shot on to the post. Ruby had a very good game and kicked the ball long to Hannah who gave the ball to Lucy which ended with Amy getting her deserved goal.
OMS 0-0 St Alban’s Primary School
The aim was to keep a clean sheet throughout and the girls were incredibly unlucky not to find a winner in this game against a good St Alban’s side. Amy, Lucy and Hannah worked tirelessly and constantly won the ball back whilst Amelie, Eleanor, Evie and Ruby all defended very well. However, St Alban’s Goalkeeper had a very good game and we dropped our first points of the tournament.
OMS 1-0 Ponteland Middle School
In this final game, OMS needed a point to guarantee the title but they were made to work very hard for it. Grace did not have to do a lot for the first 4 games but she was certainly busy this game, producing an incredible save to somehow tip the ball round the post for a corner. Evie played in a new position just in front of the defence and put in a great performance in this crucial game. Ruby came off the bench and her high work rate helped OMS to get more of the ball. Hannah and Lucy then linked up brilliantly to set up Amy who finished off a great attacking move.
A big well done to the girls for this brilliant achievement, they played 5 games and did not concede a goal. It was 3rd time lucky for OMS who have been in the final of this tournament the previous 2 years but lost on penalties. The next round of this tournament is the regional stage in Manchester or Sheffield.
