Primary Premier League Stars Regional Champions!

Mr Driver and Mrs Goodwin took seven year 6 girls to Walker Dome to represent Ovingham Middle School at the Primary Premier League Stars tournament. The winner of this tournament would represent Newcastle United at the Primary Premier League Stars tournament at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium against representatives from each Premier League football club.
Ovingham showed their dominance through out the group stage, winning all four group games by three or more goals, whilst not conceding a single goal. There were lots of different goal scorers and some fantastic goals scored. Ovingham then played their semi-final fixture and won comfortably after playing some superb passing football. This set up an exciting encounter with Amberley Primary School in the final as Amberley had also cruised through each fixture.
Mr Driver and Mrs Goodwin took the same girls to the final which was played at the training ground of Newcastle United in front of Rafa Benitez and the Premier League trophy a week later! Amberley started fast and shaded first half possession whilst Ovingham were shaking off nerves. Second half, Ovingham then took control and hit the bar twice through captain Lillie C. Finally, the deadlock was broken, Millie delivered a twenty yard throw forward which Lillie C ran on to and buried it past the goal keeper. Two minutes later, some neat passing from Anna and Emily lead to Lillie C scoring a second. Lois produced an outstanding save to keep the record of not conceding a single goal in the tournament. The final whistle blew and all of the girls celebrated in style after taking part in a fantastic match which was played in great spirit!
Ovingham will now represent Newcastle United at the Premier League Primary Stars tournament at Leicester on the 23rd May 2018. The girls will have lunch at St James’ Park and then travel to Leicester on the NUFC first team coach on 22nd May. The girls will stay in a hotel and then play on Leicester City’s Premier League pitch at the King Power Stadium on 23rd May. The girls will wear Newcastle United kits which will be personalised with their names on the back. They have been drawn in a group with: Chelsea, Bournemouth, Leicester City, Brighton.
