|Rhian and Helen of the Feathers Inn are really pleased to announce the opening of The Feathers Inn Cookery School in partnership with Ovingham Middle School. Opening in February 2018, this is the first of its kind in the North East.
With classes and courses for up to 20 people in a purpose built cookery school building. The Feathers Inn Cookery School offers hands on practical and personal cookery education taught by professional chefs.
Rhian has always passionately believed in education and maintaining traditional cookery skills. Although Rhian always knew he would be a chef, having begun that career at 17, he studied Archeology at the University of Liverpool simply because he loves to learn. Helping to increase peoples confidence in the kitchen is his aim at the new cookery school. He has taught countless numbers of chefs from complete beginners to a professional level at The Feathers Inn Kitchen and held hundreds demonstrations. “Setting up this cookery school is the next logical step for us, we love to spread our passion for great food. Making cooking approachable, and the chance to deliver hands on courses in a beautifully equipped classroom kitchen was something we jumped at”.
“We are really looking forward to opening the Cookery School doors to those who are complete novices and those who have good cooking abilities”
“All our courses and classes are taught by professional chefs who are working or have worked in the Feathers kitchen. All courses and classes are hands on, designed to give you the skills and confidence to make the dishes at home”.
Helen of The Feathers Inn who is promoting the School believes that “With all the recipes provided in a folder to take away, you will be amazed how much you can learn. Its the opportunity to be the confident cook you want to be”.
“Ovingham Middle School in the beautiful Tyne Valley is an idyllic setting for a cookery school near to Newcastle.
” All ingredients are provided. We have a demonstration area and students also have their own work spaces with all the equipment they need. This equipment is the type you will find at home. Tutors, will gauge the groups abilities, provide plenty of opportunity for questions and ensure that everyone has gained the understanding of techniques. Every session involves tasting all the food that has been made, further enhancing your ability to become a skilled cook.”
Helen is a school governor at a local first school and strongly believes in supporting schools. “Hopefully we will get the chance to work with children too. Classes and courses are currently for adults in the evenings although we will hopefully be running classes and courses though the holidays with a family focus.”
