Having arrived at Wooler youth hostel and quickly polishing off their packed lunches, the pupils all got a chance to unpack and get used to their new home for the next few days. They were then introduced to Mr Whigfield, who is leading the sessions each day. The pupils were split into 4 groups and given instructions about how to map read and use a compass. They then took it in turns to lead the whole group around a pre-determined course which started and ended at the youth hostel, which they all did really proficiently. We have been really lucky with the weather so far and are keeping our fingers crossed it is going to continue for the remaining two days. Excitement is building for our second day – looking at the animals in a shallow stream and comparing them with those found on a rocky shore. Time to get our wellies on and start investigating!
